About Us
More Than 50 Years of Serving Others
A Local Club with a Long History of Community Service
Stony Stratford Lions Club was formed in June 1975. For more than five decades, our members have worked together to support local, national and international communities.
We are a voluntary service club made up of ordinary people who share a common belief: we can make a difference by helping others.
Our work takes many forms. From supporting local families and community organisations to encouraging young people, promoting eye care and supporting humanitarian projects overseas, we are committed to turning good intentions into practical action.
Our motto is We Serve. It is more than a slogan. It is the principle behind the work we do.
Our Values
We believe in:
Helping people
Responding to real needs and providing practical support wherever we can.
Working together
Bringing people and organisations together to achieve more than any one individual could achieve alone.
Making a lasting contribution
Supporting projects over time, building relationships and continuing work that benefits future generations.
Serving with purpose
Giving our time and effort to worthwhile causes without expecting anything in return.
Part of Something Bigger
We are proud to be part of Lions International, the world’s largest network of voluntary service clubs. Lions International celebrated its centenary in 2017, marking 100 years of people joining together to serve their communities. Being part of this worldwide network connects our local work with a much wider humanitarian purpose. While we focus on the needs of the communities around us, we also contribute to international causes and projects that help people across the world. It means that our service starts locally but has no geographical boundaries.
Proud of Our Roots in Stony Stratford
Stony Stratford has been at the heart of our club since its formation. Over the years, we have developed lasting connections with local organisations, schools, community groups and people who share our commitment to helping others. Our annual Remembrance Day service at Horsefair Green, organised since 1997, is one example of our continuing contribution to local community life. We believe that a strong community is built when people look out for one another and take action when help is needed.
Our Story Continues
More than 50 years of service is something we are proud of, but our story is not just about the past.
It is about continuing to identify needs, support good causes and find new ways to make a positive difference.
The challenges facing communities may change, but the importance of people helping people never does.
