Food Cupboard

The Food Cupboard works with Milton Keynes Children's Services for local families with children and occasionally with refugees from the Middle East.

How the food cupboard works.
Donations of food and money are received from local churches, food stores, schools, clubs and individuals and also support from MK Children's Services There is a central warehouse in the North of Milton Keynes where non-perishable supplies are sorted and stored.

When a new food pack is needed MK Children's Services Co-ordinator contacts our Deliveries Co-ordinator who records the necessary details for 'customising' and delivery to the client families.

He / She then contacts the deliverer.

Following contact the deliverer will phone the family requiring the food to agree a delivery time and confirm any necessary details for additional requests from Children's Services - nappy sizes and types of baby milk needed.

Delivery
We always expect a delivery team to be two people - a driver and observer / navigator. This is because much of MK address numbering  is random - some odds and evens and some consecutive. This is also for safe handling of parcels and for personal safety.

Fresh and perishable food is purchased on the day and added to non-perishable and the complete food pack is delivered to the door for the family.

Food Cupboard Perishables
Apples, Bananas, Sausages 500g x 2, Margarine 250g, Milk 2 litres,
Cheese 250 - 350g, Eggs x 12 and Bread (medium slice) x 4.

When the pack is delivered, during handover and conversation the recipients are reminded that there is a menu included in the pack to make it last the whole week, but it is their food to do with as they wish.
